Professor of Contemporary Art in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, she has been associate professor for the Rey Juan Carlos I Chair at the Spanish Culture and Civilization Department in New York University, where she was awarded a grant from the Fulbright Fondation. Her research work is about genre theory and postcolonial studies. Among her publications we can mention: La mujer y la pintura en la España del Siglo XIX (1987), El Andrógino sexuado. Eternos ideales, Nuevas estrategias de género (1992), Tristísimo Warhol (Siruela, Madrid, 199), Querida Gala (2003) and El filósofo y otros relatos sin personajes (Siruela, Madrid, 2000).
