The instituto de investigaciones independientes (institute for independent research) is a collaborative platform that aims to foretell the present through investigation and study. (iii) was founded by Luciano Concheiro (Mexico), who has a BA in History from UNAM and MPhil in sociology from Cambridge University, and Xavier Nueno (USA), third-year PhD student in Film and Visual Studies at Harvard University. iii has two main projects: the first one is NEWS, a series of publications dedicated to practice-based research by artists, architects, educators, scientists, scholars, and writers. They publish ongoing investigations committed to reading material records of the present, the histories they enfold, and the futures that haunt them. The second one is PHOTOCOPIES, based on the practice of studying by reproducing books: they appropriate essays, articles, and extracts of books by translating and copying it as a way of collective learning.
