Raimond Chaves
Lives and works between Lima, Bogotá and Barcelona. In his works, he reunites his interest and compromise with the Latin American context with the manual elaboration of images (“Los Ladrones de Dinamita”, Bogotá – Barcelona, 2000; “La Pura Oscura”, Bogotá 2004 and “Maestro Plantillero”, Lima, 2004), the edition of several low-cost publications (“Hangueando”, 2002- 2004, “Enviado Especial”, “Cartagena de Indias”, 2007 and “Puñeta!”, 2007) and the narration of his family’s history intertwined with the history of Latin America, from the covers of discs found in flea-markets (“El Toque Criollo”, 2002-2008). Since 2005, he and the Peruvian artist Gilda Mantilla are working on “Dibujando América”, a project that unites drawing and traveling as two knowledge instruments (27a Bienal de Sao Paulo, 2006; Mal de América, Projecte SD, Barcelona, 2007 and Acirema, Galería Mirta Demare, Rotterdam, 2008, among other exhibitions).
