Robert Storr (USA, 1949) is an artist, critic, and curator. Storr was appointed dean of the School of Art of the University of Yale in 2006 and was named the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Dean in 2014. As a curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (1990-2002), Storr organized numerous shows, including retrospectives of Gerhard Richter, Chuck Close, and Tony Smith, and coordinated the Projects series from 1990 to 2000. He co-curated Tate Modern and MoMA QNS’s Max Beckmann retrospective in 2003, and organized SITE Santa Fe’s Fifth International Biennial. From 2005 to 2007 he was visual arts director of the Venice Biennale, the first American invited to assume that position. A frequent contributor to ArtForum, he is the author of numerous catalogues and monographs.
