Program 1: It All Began at the End

The images agglutinated in this short film are the product of cuts, splices and scratches on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm film. This work shows the making of a film with intervened tapes, scanned frame by frame and animated through digital stop motion. Tim Grabham (iloobia) has been producing still and moving images independently for 30 years.
• Inventario Churubusco, Elena Pardo, 2018, 7 min.
Made during her internship in the Laboratorio Experimental de Cine (LEC) at the famous Churubusco Studios, this short film explores the work of the people in charge of image processing, laboratorians turned this time into active subjects during filming. This work shows processes and knowledge of filmmaking that most of the time escape sight.

• Agarrando pueblo, Luis Ospina and Carlos Mayolo, 1977, 27 min.
This work is a warning for those who seek to approach the representation of poverty. Alfredo García, a stubborn film director played by Carlos Mayolo, has been commissioned by German television to make a documentary about life in Cali and Bogotá. The film explores the tensions between documentary and fiction to point out pornomisery as a recurring problem.

In this first installment of the Film Ist series, Gustav Deutsch focuses on scientific laboratories as centers of film production. Divided into six sections, the film is made up of found footage that, detached from its initial purpose and rescued from the archive, escapes possible limitations and suggests new analogies.
