Writer, journalist on organized crime and human rights defender known internationally. She was Good Will Ambassador by the United Nations Organization. Lydia Cacho founded fourteen years ago an attention multidisciplinary center for abused women, as well as a refugee for battered women and their children. She is founder of the Red Nacional de Refugios para Mujeres Maltratadas in Mexico. She has been threatened several times due to her research on child pornography and women traffic mafias; she was kidnapped and put in jail illegally by a governor that supported a child sex tourism web. Despite the threats, she is still an activist for women and children's rights around the world.

She has been awarded by UNESCO – Guillermo Cano, for courage in journalism. She was named a World Heroine 2008 against slavery by State Departament on Northamerica and CNN International. She was named also by Aminstía Internacional, Manu Legineche, the International Press Institute, the Newsweek and Daily Beast Magazines. She is author of Demonios, Memorias de una infamia, Con mi hij@ no: manual para prevenir el abuso sexual infantil and the multi-awarded Esclavas del poder: las redes de trata de mujeres en el mundo, translated into twelve languages. She has also worked in collaboration with the governments of Mexico, Guatemala, Spain on the creation of specialized laws on women defense.
