Es Director de Servicios Académicos y Vice Presidente del San Francisco Art Institute. Es curador adjunto en el International Center of Photography (Nueva York). Enwezor es fundador y editor de la revista de arte Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art (Africana Studies Center, Cornell University). Director artístico de Documenta 11, Kassel (Alemania, 1998-2002) y de la segunda Johannesburg Biennale (1996-1998), entre otras. Ha curado numerosas exposiciones incluyendo In/Sight: African Photographers, 1940- Present, Guggenheim Museum; fue co-curador de Cinco Continentes: Biennale of Painting (México); y curó Archive Fever: Uses of the Document in Contemporary Art. Entre sus libros cabe mencionar Reading the Contemporary: African Art, from Theory to the Marketplace (MIT Press, Cambridge and INIVA, London) y Mega Exhibitions: Antinomies of a Transnational Global Form (Wilhelm Fink Verlag, Munich). Es co-editor de Antinomies of Art and Culture after 20th Century: Modernity, Postmodernity, Contemporaneity (Duke University Press, otoño, 2007) y actualmente está terminando Archaeology of the Present: The Postcolonial Archive, Photography and African Modernity.
